Sophon Zaram was elected as a Member of Parliament for Buriram Province in 2001 under the Thai Nation Party. In the 2005 election, Sophon was elected under the Thai Rak Thai Party, and later under the People's Power Party in the 2007 election. Following the dissolution of the People's Power Party, he joined the Bhumjaithai Party in 2010. He previously served as the Chairman of the Committee on Transportation in the 25th House of Representatives during the government of General Prayut Chan-o-cha. Currently, he holds the position of Chairman of the Committee on Education in the 26th House of Representatives under the government of Srettha Thavisin and Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
