RIYANKA MUKHERJEE

As an educator with over eight years of experience, I’ve had the rewarding opportunity to teach IBDP Chemistry (both HL & SL), TOK, MYP Science, A Level, and IGCSE Chemistry across reputed international schools in India and overseas. Each of these roles has deepened my belief that great teaching goes beyond delivering content—it’s about creating an environment where curiosity thrives and critical thinking is second nature.

My classrooms are spaces where students feel safe to ask questions, challenge ideas, and connect concepts across disciplines. I take great pride in the outcomes my students achieve—not just because they consistently surpass global averages in IB Chemistry or perform strongly in IGCSE and A Level exams, but because they develop confidence in their own understanding and thinking.

What truly sets me apart is my holistic approach to education. I see each student as more than just a learner—I see them as future changemakers. Beyond academics, I’ve actively contributed to school life by organizing CAS initiatives, leading science exhibitions, and coordinating TOK activities and exhibition. These experiences have reaffirmed my belief that education should empower students to engage meaningfully with the world around them.

I’m excited about the possibility of joining a learning community that values both academic rigor and personal growth. I bring not only strong subject expertise but also a deep passion for inspiring lifelong learners.

My teaching philosophy is deeply influenced by the Feynman Teaching Method, an approach pioneered by the renowned physicist Richard Feynman. At its core, this method is about simplicity, clarity, and a profound commitment to understanding. I believe in making complex concepts accessible to students by breaking them down into their simplest components. Just as Feynman emphasized the importance of explaining a topic in simple terms as if you were teaching it to a child, I believe in using plain language and relatable examples to ensure that every student can grasp the fundamental concepts. Furthermore, the Feynman Method emphasizes active learning and problem-solving. I encourage my students to engage actively with the material, to question, experiment, and test their understanding. This not only reinforces their comprehension but also fosters critical thinking skills that will serve them well in all aspects of their education and beyond.
Another key aspect of my teaching philosophy influenced by Feynman is a commitment to lifelong learning. I believe that, as educators, we must continually expand our own knowledge and approach each teaching opportunity with enthusiasm and curiosity. Just as Feynman approached every subject as an opportunity to learn and grow, I strive to do the same. In conclusion, my teaching philosophy is centered on the Feynman Teaching Method, emphasizing simplicity, clarity, active learning, and a dedication to lifelong learning. I am committed to helping students not only understand the material but also develop a passion for learning that will stay with them throughout their lives.

• A Coumarin based Fluorescent Probe for the selective detection of Cysteine- Internship done in CSIR-CSMCRI (Central Marine and Salt Research Institute) Bhavnagar under the guidance of Dr. Amitava Das (Director CSIR-CSMCRI) in April 2016.
• Comparative Study of The Heavy Metal Lead in Fabric & Hair Dyes - Research Project submitted to the Department of Chemistry, pursued in NRCLPI Bengaluru (National Referral Center for Lead Poisoning in India) under the supervision of Dr Thuppil Venkatesh (Director-NRCLPI) in December 2016.
• Isolation of Lycopene and Lutein from natural sources and their application in organic electronics -Research Project submitted to the Department of Chemistry, Christ University,April 2015.
• In vitro culture and characterization of Mesenchymal stem cells - Internship done in Stempeutics Bangalore, June,2014.
• Worked as Scientist Trainee in Anthem Biosciences Private Limited, Bengaluru, in the CL (Chemistry Lab) department in a FT (Full Time ) project focused in the synthesis of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingridient ) Equol used for the treatment of osteoporosis and Glabridin used in cosmetics as skin whitening agent, July 2017.
